New Delhi: As part of the ongoing citizen movement which demands amendments to existing laws to introduce strict punishment clauses for cruelty to animals, more than one lakh signatory including several parliamentarians (parliamentarians) has been written to the central government Continuing the law during the upcoming rainy season session from Parliament.
The session will begin on Monday.
They were in their email to the office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Livestock highlighted how the punishment for the cruelty of animals continued to be a total of Rs 50 without prison even after 60 years of enactment prevention of cruelty towards the animal law, 1960.
Even though the government is ready to change the law and have even completed the draft Providing strict punishment, the view of various stakeholders (especially from the milk and poultry sector) on the proposal in its form revived.
“We are checking the views on various stakeholders.
The draft needs to be adjusted well before the cabinet records on it are resolved.
I am not sure at this stage whether the amendment bill can be introduced during the Monsun session,” said an official at the Ministry of Livestock and the Livestock and Penquartment.
The session will continue until August 13.
The amendment bill has been, so far, has not been listed to be introduced.
The draft amendment proposes a penalty to 75,000 RS or three times the cost of animals or a period of prison for up to five years or both if an individual or organization action leads to animal death.
Animal rights groups such as humans for animals (PFA) and Humane Society International / India (HIS / India) have demanded amendments in the old law.
They claim that their sustainable online signature campaigns on penalties for cruelty of animals have support from many parliamentarians.
In the previous parliamentary session, MPs including members of Rajya Sabha, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and members of Lok Sabha, Anubhav Mohanty, had raised problems in their homes, and looking for strict law to deal with cruelty towards animals.
