LONDON: US climate envoy John Kerry asked China to join America urgently cut greenhouse gas emissions and describe the international alliance that rebuilt Europe after World War II as a model to combat climate change.
Kerry challenges global leaders to accelerate the actions needed to limit the increase in temperature and pull the world back from the edge of the abyss.
“Allies, partners, competitors, and even enemies” must work together, he said during a speech in the London Kew garden, the UNESCO World Heritage Site where scientists worked to protect plants from global warming.
“The climate crisis is a test of our own time, and while it might happen in slow movements, for some people, this test is acute and existential as before,” Kerry said.
“Time is almost exhausted.” Kerry described the next decade as a determinant, said countries around the world must accelerate efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions if they want to fulfill their commitment to limit the increase in temperature to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius than the pre-industrial level.
While many countries have promised to eliminate clean carbon emissions in 2050, the inter-government panels of climate change said emissions must be cut at least 40% at the end of the decade to maintain temperature.
The organizer of the subsequent UN climate summit mentioned the November event at Glasgow, Scotland “the world’s best opportunity in the world to get a climate change that escaped.” The main purpose of the meeting, known as COP26, is for countries to set the target “ambitious” to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in 2030.
To meet these targets, countries need to remove the use of coal, accelerate the shift in the vehicle Electricity and encourage investment in renewable energy, according to conference organizers.
China, the United States and India are the largest greenhouse gas emites in the world, which means efforts to control climate change tend to fail except the three leads in cutting emissions.
Kerry refers to relationships that are often tense between the US and China but say the future depends on their cooperation.
Both countries also need to increase their ambitions, he said.
“This is not a mystery that China and the US have a lot of differences.
But in the climate, cooperation is the only way to free yourself from the suicide pact with the world today,” he said.
” President Biden and President XI have stated firmly firmly.
That each will work together in the climate even though there are other consequential differences.
America requires China to succeed in cutting emissions.
China requires America to do the same.
“China output from climate destruction pollution soared in the last decade because of its boomed economy, mainly because it continued to operate, build and finance new-burning coal power plants.
The Rhodium Group analysis company reported in May that China in 2019 pumped more than 27% of all emissions that damaged the climate globally.
It was more than the United States, which reached 11%, and more than the rest of the world developed combined, said Rhodium.
Trump administration and others in the United States pointing to the main role of China in climate damage to confirming many efforts to cut emissions in US China and other developing economies, meanwhile, said the Western nations who were most responsible for global warming occurred in the past Ask them to control their own development with little or without compensation.
Antony Froggatt, an energy policy consultant at Chatham House Think Tank in London, praises Kerry’s speech to highlight the urgent need for all.
“There is receipt from one of the highest climate change officials in the world that climate change is here, it’s real, it has an impact, and the future impact will be equivalent to a kind of global war …
and therefore we need to do something now,” Froggatt said.
“It’s not just America, it’s not just EU.
It is India.
It is Chinese.
This is the main emitter that really needs to take action in the real short term and show that they change the level of emissions.”
