New Delhi: Plans to connect the Delhi Zoo with Azimganj Sarai in Nursery Sunder has been removed, officials said, declaring multiplicity agents and the need to break down some of the zoo boundary walls make complex projects.
In addition, permits are also needed to fall around 90 trees under the forest conservation law with the forest ‘considered’.
Under the plan, visitors from the zoo can cross to Nursery Sunder through Sarai, while visitors at Nursery Sunder can also enter the zoo through the gate which falls between the two.
Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), which worked on the recovery of the Mughal Inn of the 16th century and 108 individual rooms for more than five years, said the restoration work had also been stopped.
AKTC has completed the phase-i of the restoration, while phase-II conservation work will take three additional years, which consists of a nine meter high wall repair work.
This is done in partnership with the Archaeological Department, which comes under Delhi’s administration.
Nanda Give, Project Director, AKTIC, said the restoration work no longer continued to Sarai with a zoo that could not file an agreement on a particular project plan.
“We no longer do restoration.
It can be continued later if there is a fresh plan put in the job,” said Nanda.
The previous AKTIC stated that most of the Sarai wall, which had a large page in the middle, was dilapidated when the restoration work continued, with several walls collapsing towards the zoo and animal cages.
AKTC said the project would not only save this Mughal structure but also prevent further damage to the closing of the Delhi Zoo.
During this first phase, the stabilization work was carried out on two Sarai wings, which consisted of 54 domed cells and their curved openings.
For the second phase, the trees that fall around it need to be transplanted.
Ramesh Pandey, Director, Delhi Zoo, told TII that in the end, the plan had been canceled almost six months ago with four agents, including the zoo, AKTC, Archaeological Department and the Department of Urban Development, failed to come to consensus more than a few things.
