Nagpur: This is a cause of fears that almost two-thirds of the length of the road in the city are in a bad condition.
About 64.45% of the cumulative tar road Nagpur 1,491.19km has developed a fully worn hole or surface due to non-maintenance.
Eight of Nagpur City Traffic Police Zones (Lakadganj, Sakkardara, Ajni, Sonegaon, Sitabuldi, Aware and Indora) have also supported this.
The police from these zones acknowledged that the road conditions of tar crossed the corporate boundary bad, with a hole or nothing left from the surface of the road.
The data obtained from NMC revealed that the total length of the city road was around 2,313.65 km, including around 700 km long roads had been cemented, while about 150 km of the road was Kuccha.
Toi drove around the city, and found services in traffic police claims and experienced a wavy vehicle because the streets were ridden by holes in many regions.
When the rain arrives in the city, small holes change bigger, and the larger ones turn into craters in many large and internal roads, pose a threat to motorists.
In such a way that two in every three tar roads in the city are in a bad condition, the traffic police said.
Road tar even in civil lines is in a bad condition.
This condition is very severe so that the surface layer between square varieties and Ravi Nagar Square is only seen in several parts.
Corporators accused that the powerful BJP did not have control over NMC.
Quoting an example, they said recently the Mayor of Dayashankar Tiwari had directed the Hotmix department to ensure city roads free of holes.
“Even so, road tar in most cities is in a bad condition,” Congress Corporator Bhawna Lonare.
Senior Corporator Abha Pande claims NMC never conducts a survey to identify holes.
“We can’t expect the Civic’s body to carry out patches for holes,” he said.
Citing examples, Pande said Mahdibagh flyover fillings also have holes.
“Just imagine if the main road in such conditions, we cannot expect the internal path to be in good condition,” he said.
Corporate Corporator Darshani Dhawad claimed that from the beginning of this year he had followed up on the NMC Hotmix Department regarding poor spots from Jalan Tar in Western Nagpur.
“But so far there have been no actions initiated to overcome street spots in my prabhag,” said a dhawad who was annoyed.
Toi recently highlighted how local NGO donations to repair the streets of the hole in Surendragadh after the Civic body did not act on complaints of citizens associated with the streets of Potholed.
Founder Janhit Abhijit Jha blames the citizenship administration and selected representatives for poor road conditions.
“Nagpur City witnessed a lot of large infrastructure works such as Metro Rail, fir firover and considered as one of the fastest growing cities.
But the condition of the city road is often not synchronous with this tag.
From a hole like a crater to gravel scattered carelessly, Nagpur has many roads like that which pose a threat to the driver, “said Paramjeet Singh Kalsi, a resident of East Nagpur.
Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari is not available for comments.
Superintending engineers Ajay Pohekar claims that the NMC repaired the hole as and when receiving complaints.
However, he showed that city streets were owned by various institutions, but everyone blamed NMC for hole streets.
However, Pohekar admitted that the main part of the city streets was owned by the Civic body.
