Thiruvananthapuram: The state government will approach the Supreme Court on the decision of the High Court in the quota of minority scholarships, the chairman of the Pinarayany Minister Vijayan told the Assembly on Thursday.
Vijayan said the government was moving a court based on legal advice from Senior SC Lawyer K Parasar.
He said the controversy regarding this problem was unreasonable, and no one had to try to create a general gap or hatred about this problem.
The new policy must be formulated after the High Court canceled the previous 80:20 ratio, he said.
Those who receive scholarships will continue to accept them when new scholarships will be given on the basis of the population of each community.
The opposition leader V D Sathean, meanwhile, said the government must maintain scholarships for the Muslim community based on the recommendation of the Sachar Committee.
The number of scholarships for the Muslim community should not be reduced, he said and added that he only welcomed some government decisions.

The population of Christian and Muslim communities respectively was 18.38% and 26.56%, while Buddhists, Jain and Sikh were 0.01% respectively.
The government has also decided to ask RS 6.2 Crore in addition to the budget allocation as a minority scholarship will need RS 23.51 Crore this year.
The High Court has canceled the 2015 Government Regulation submerging scholarships in the 80:20 ratio to Latin Muslims and Catholics and converted Christians, after the government held an allparty meeting to take different views on the topic.
