Kolkata: A 40-year-old man, Mithun Mondal, was arrested from Rupnagar at Sonarpur on Saturday for allegedly vaccinating more than 40 people with bottles he stole from the center of Moshut’s sub-health where he worked as a vaccine coordinator.
After complaints from some people they did not receive messages or certificates after they were vaccinated, the police posed as a recipient in the vaccination camp held by Mondal and arrested him.
Mondal, who lives in a rented house in Rupnagar, is reportedly holding four camps like that and the recipient is accused of Rs 500 per Jab.
“We are compiling a list of recipients and checking health status,” said a health department official.
The Ministry of Health will also check the status of their antibodies to ascertain whether the original vaccine is given.
The initial probe revealed Mondal stole a bottle of 100 and people who were vaccinated in his area.
The police relate to the Ministry of Health to run the Medico-legal probe into it.
The panel led by the Chief Medical Officer (Health) Diamond Harbor Debasis Roy seized a vaccine log from the health center.
Justipur SP Vaibav Tiwari said, “We recover two bottles and several syringes and needles from the defendant.
He was produced in court and returned in police custody.”
