Nagpur: The city traffic police have recorded a 73% increase in the number of cases of driving the wrong side and jumping red lights, up without helmets or using cellphones while driving, as mentioned in a traffic year report.
Data on traffic violations that were different from the first six months of this year (2021) revealed that 10 traffic police zones have captured 4.42 lakh riders and cumulative collecting RS7.35 Crore fine from them.
In the same period (from 1 January 2020 to 30 June 2020), 10 traffic police zones ordered 2.56 lakh lakh and restored a fine of RS4.13 crore.
Traffic police, under the leadership of DCP Awad Sarang, began a massive boost against violators and carried out various steps to reduce traffic violations.
The department also witnessed a three-fold increase in red-light leaps, a nine-fold increase in the use of luxury number plate (such as 3,219 cases in 2020, the police sentenced 31,018 motorists this year) and more than doubled in the use of cellphones while driving, which Rose from 15,563 cases last year to 35,173 cases in the current year.
The source, however, said the case of more traffic violations last year due to complete lockdown.
“The increase in the number of traffic violations in the city showed that traffic police became more vigilant,” said Traffic experts and Vice President Janakrosh Ashok Carandikar.
He, however, felt that with a lower amount of fine, the driver in Nagpur did not have doubts to pay a fine after being arrested for violating traffic rules.
If the state government applies the central motorcycle vehicle laws that have been amended, which has been significantly climbing, the scenario can be different.
“If a good amount is higher, the driver will think twice before jumping the red light and so on.
It will also bring down a road accident,” Karandikar said.
With 800 strange police, traffic police have challenging tasks.
According to the carandikar, the traffic police need to focus on recovery of cooling fines and must bind in a private body for recovery.
Lawyers of the High Court and Traffic Expert Anjan Chatterjee said the traffic-breaker rules were clearly not prevented by a recent increase in a fine.
“It will be appropriate if the action of motorized vehicles and the central motorized vehicle rules are changed to deal with serious traffic violations to be required to cover the IPC 299 section, for guilty murders who do not amount to murder,” he said.
The most common violation is jumping signal, driving the wrong side, excess speed, drunk driving.
“If each violation is ordered, aggregate will be three to four official numbers,” Chatterjee said.
Signal jumps Often because of non-synchronizing traffic signals along the route luggage, he said, adding that if there is the right synchronization, the case of jumping signal can fall, regardless of the valuable fuel saved and pollution that does not need to be examined.
