Tokyo: The four residents of the Olympic Village, including two athletes, were among seven new Covid-19 cases announced by the event organizers on Tuesday.
With this, covid cases related to games jumped to 155, 20 of them in the village of Games.
The four new cases in the village included two personnel concerned.
On Monday, Dutch tennis player Jean-Julien Rojer was forced to withdraw from after testing the positive virus.
Rojer and his double partner Wesley Koolhof, scheduled to play Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus New Zealand, pulled out of their second round match on Monday after Rojer’s positive test results.
Contingencies that have been hit by Covid-19 after landing in Tokyo include the Czech Republic, the United States, Chile, South Africa and the Netherlands among others.
Of these, the Czech Republic asked the possibility of violating the health safety protocol with its contingent after four athletes were tested positive for viruses, forcing withdrawals from the beach volleyball and road cycling events.
