Mumbai: The population of Lakh Dharavi is expected to be vaccinated against Covid-19 at no cost in a month through CSR initiatives.
BMC has provided a city school in the area and drive vaccination starts there on Tuesday.
Assistant Commissioner of Kota, G-North Ward, Kiran Dighavkar said Citibank had offered to vaccinate the population of Dharavi through a team of Jaslok Hospital.
“This is a very good initiative by Citi and Jaslok together.
BMC will help them mobilize beneficiaries with the help of local NGOs.
We plan to provide cards to beneficiaries that will be distributed by NGOs.
Every resident who wants a card to visit our health post,” Dighavkar said.
Officially, the Dharavi population is around seven lakh, and in fact an estimated 8.5 lakh.
BMC has been vaccinated by almost 40,000 local residents at the vaccination center there.
Many residents also tend to take dose personally.
Covid-19 entered Dharavi on April 1 last year and there were days when more than 90 new cases were reported.
