Kolkata: The anti-rowdy section of the detective department has arrested 11 people from the office in the IT Park in Taratala Road because it was thought to run fake customer care services from American e-commerce giants.
The gang, claimed police, wanted to take advantage of the two-day sales offered by giants e-commerce and target hundreds of customers.
The usual target for this gang is a British citizen that they call representatives of the e-commerce giant.
“The defendant will pose as a company employee and make calls to England to conduct a lifestyle survey.
They use VoIP calls every time,” said a police officer.
The defendant came from the Benitor, Tiljala and Watgunge (also from Budge Budge and Maherstala).
All defendants were between 19 and 36 years old.
“On July 26, the attack was carried out on the third floor of the TI Park.
During the attack, it was founded that the illegal call center ran from there,” said CP (crime) Murlidhar Sharma.
“The usual modus operandi from this gang is to send fake messages to telephone numbers and e-commerce customer e-mail IDs, tell them that $ 1,000 has been credited to their account.
When the customer returns to know more about it, the defendant threatens it, By saying the security number they have been hacked.
The target will then be done to pay in the form of a gift voucher from the company’s store, which is alleged to be redeemed later.
