Mumbai: Five young men, two of them engineers and underage, have recently been arrested for allegedly running a national racket where they record men in fans, enjoy sextory and sell obscene video clips on the internet.
Police said the defendant had made a video clip of almost 250 men and the money was stored in a bank account in India and Nepal.
Some of their victims are models and celebrities of the TV and film industry.
They were picked up from Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh by the Cyber Mumbai police team.
Each has a specified role.
“Two of them operate profiles on social media where they pose as women and make friends with men,” said a cyber police officer.
Over time, they will start with men and convince them to share their obscene videos, with a guarantee that all interactions are confidential.
The defendant also made video calls and recorded their targets, using technology, police said.
Clips used to squeeze victims of money.
Two other defendants have floated groups on messaging applications where they sell video clips for at least 80 people so far.
Cyber police have found 12 accounts on social media platforms in addition to six email accounts operated by gang members posing as women.
“The defendant used another application and technology to convince the target that a woman called,” said an officer, but could not immediately determine the details of the technology or application used.
The police also came across the online post for sale of obscene video clips.
“About 30 lakh rupees from video sales have been tracked.
Some of the proceeds are transferred through digital wallets operated by false identity,” the officer said.
A pine was registered on June 5 and the probe lasted for more than a month.
“We would like to appeal to citizens not to respond to video calls, social media messages or text from foreigners,” said DCP (Police Cyber) Rashmi Kandikar.
“If anyone extortes you for money, approach the nearest police station and cabin cabin.
Don’t pay for fear,” he added.
