Hyderabad: Covid-19 Vaccine Covaxin is effective in neutralizing the Delta Plus (AY.1) variant, a study conducted by the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) and National Virology Institute, Pune, has found.
The Delta Plus variant was first detected in India earlier this year and then in 20 other countries.
This study found that even though there was a reduction in nab titers (concentrations of neutralization antibodies) in the serum of three groups studied, the concentration of antibodies was sufficient to effectively neutralize deltas, Delta Plus and B.1.617.3 variants compared to variants B.1.
This study evaluated the IgG antibody titers (immunoglobulin g) concentration and neutralized the potential serum individual Naif Covid-19 fully vaccinated with Covaxin, Covid-19 cases recovered with two doses of covagin and post-immunization breakthrough cases with delta, delta plus and b.1.617.3 compared to variants b.1.
The research paper entitled “Neutralization comparable SARS-COV-2 Delta AY.1 and Delta in vaccinated individuals with BBV152 ‘has been uploaded in Biorxiv, which brought the research paper prepacked before they were reviewed.
The efficacy of phase III phase III Covaxin has shown a 65.2% vaccine effective against the Delta variant.
For this study, researchers draw Sera from 86 people, including 42 people who have never been infected with Covid but are immunized with two covaxin doses, 14 people who have recovered from Covid and vaccinated with two doses of covaxin and 30 people obtained by infected after being immunized with two Covaxin dose.
“The small reduction was observed in the covid-19 covid antibody antibody titration in the full bv152 vaccination and post-infected cases were immunized compared to individuals who were vaccinated Naif Covid-19.
However, with high titers observed, serum individuals belonging to all the groups mentioned in For them, they will still neutralize Delta, Delta AY.1 and B.1.617.3 variants, “said the researchers.
“Reduction of neutralization activity was observed with individual Naif Covid-19 full vaccination (1.3, 1.5, 1.9 times), Covid-19 cases recovered with full BBV152 immunization (2.5, 3.5, 3.8 times ) And post-immunized breakthrough cases (1.9, 2.8, 3.5 times) against Delta, Delta AY.1 and B.6,617.3, compared to variants B.1, “he added.
