Srinagar: The Kashmir Valley witnessed a series of terrorist attacks on the second birthday of the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
Officials said there were a total of five terrorist incidents during the day.
There is no loss of life or injury to anyone reported, they added.
Apart from this, there are no reports of unwanted incidents in the valley.
The shops and business companies in several areas of Srinagar remain closed during the day and the public buses are not ply, officials said.
Although there were no calls for strikes provided by any separatist clothing, some areas in the city watched spontaneous shutdown, they said.
Providing the details of the attack, officials said the first occurred in the bord in the Sopore area in the North Kashmir Baramulla district where terrorists opened fire on the police team in the morning.
There is no loss of life or injury to anyone.
Around noon, the explosion – allegedly as an improvised explosive device (IED) – took place near Jamia Mosque in the Srinagar Nowhatta area, officials said.
Security forces were deployed in the area releasing several rounds in the air after the explosion, they said.
At night, terrorists threw a grenade on the team of security forces in Mehjoor Nagar here.
Around 8:30 p.m., terrorists threw a grenade to the police station Pulwama in South Kashmir and it exploded on the edge of the road outside the main gate, officials said.
The fifth attack took place around 9pm when a terrorist threw a grenade in the security force in Bemina near Judge Quarters here which exploded without causing loss of life or injury to anyone.
Meanwhile, shops in several areas in the city, including downtown Lal Chowk, were closed.
Those in other areas such as the South Anantnag Kashmir District and Budgam, Ganderbal and Kupwara open parts.
The shop owners in many areas, including Lal Chowk, alleged that the police forced them to keep their company open.
Many of them claim the police broke their store key.
There were no strike calls provided by any separatist group.
The police called a letter in the name of the Chairperson of the Hurriyat Hardline Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who was under the detention of the house, called for the closure of “fake”.
They add that action is being taken against those who upload or share mail.
On August 5, 2019, the center announced the nullification of Article 370 Constitution which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir and divided the country to the United States – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
