Chennai: MNM President Kamal Haasan on Friday asked the DMK government in Tamil Nadu to drop the steps reported to restore the legislative council.
With a country that already has assembly of community representatives and some of the selected committees to advise the government, should not try to restore the council that is not in harmony but substantially can increase the burden of large costs, said Kamal in A statement.

The state has struggled to meet the increase in the cost of handling covid pandemic and lower income issues.
In such a scenario, why should it encourage the government to bring back the legislative council by making announcements in the budget as shown by media reports, “Ask Kamal.

With representatives chosen by people who are state assemblies, the need for the legislative council becomes excessive.
Most of the states have abolished them and this board only exists in several states, Kamal said.
