Chennai: Governor of Nadu Tamil Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday welcomed the Neeraj Chopra for winning a gold medal in Javelin threw at the Tokyo Olympics and ended the 120 years of the country waiting for a medal in athletics.
They also greeted the Bajrang Punia wrestler for winning a bronze medal at 65kg of freestyle in the Olympics.
“Happy congratulations and the best hope for the Chopra Neeraj for winning the gold medal and Punia Bajrang for winning a bronze medal.
We are really proud of them,” Pureohit said in a statement.
The governor stated that the Neeraj Chopra has created history as the first Indian sportsmen to win a medal at the tracks and fields at the Olympics.
He has Indian fame in the universe today, he said and added the punia had brought pride to the nation through his extraordinary achievement in wrestling.
“I am sure that the achievement of a sportsman will inspire and motivate Indian sportsmen to do the best in the Olympics and get more medals and victories for our great nation,” he said and congratulated their coaches.

He appreciated Punia’s wrestlers and tweets, “Congratulations to @bairangpunia about winning the sixth medal for India at # Tokyo2020 in debut #olympics through clinical performance and dominating.” The MNM and actor leader Kamal Haasan also praised the Chopra Neeraj.
He tweeted that history had been made when Neeraj Chopra fulfilled the dream of every Indian with a javelin throw.
