Mumbai: Even though BMC faces Crunch Cash, he wants to appoint a new road safety auditor at a cost of Rs20,000 per km.
BMC has proposed the appointment of a new agent for three years.
The total cost will come around RS 3.15 Crore for the project.
This will be the first time BMC pointed to the road safety audit agent.
Opposition criticizes BMC for the cost of the plan.

BMC officials said 39 ‘black spots’ or accident-prone spots were identified by BMC.
Many accidents are caused by poor road design.
Officials said they would receive auditor assistance to remove design defects that caused an accident.
Changes in road design will also be recommended by the auditor.
BMC officials said they had received responses from four companies.
“They all quote the exchange rate starting from Rp21,000-29,000 per km.
We chose three agents for RS20,000 per km.
The length of the road is 454 km in the city, 352km on the east suburb and 770 km on the western suburb.
So, BMC will spend Around Rs 3.15 Crore on the project, “said an official.
Opposition says BMC may not spend RS20,000 per km.
“Road safety auditors can provide the best advice, but practically it is not possible to follow suggestions and implement changes.
BMC may not spend so much on the auditor.
It will end like the appointment of the auditor for road work, the auditor’s place is allegedly involved in fraud.

In 2015, BMC had decided to get rid of third-party auditors to monitor road work after 10 employees from two companies found involved in multi-crore road repair fraud.
In 2019, a Supreme Court Committee issued guidelines for road safety.
