Kolkata: About one third of Covid-19 patients now admit in the city private hospital has been vaccinated, some of them with both shots.
While the majority of patients such have a fairly mild, some – especially those who have co-morbidity – have needed oxygen support.
However, the doctor who spoke to, however, argued that the vaccine is still the best form of protection against Covid, adding that the percentage of vaccinated people who need hospital support is Minuscule, compared to the total number of people who are vaccinated.
Amri Hospitals has 24 covid patients in three units in the city, around 60% of whom have received at least one dose of vaccine.
“Of the 15 in the ICU, there are some who have vaccines.
Most of these critical patients are infected as soon as they receive their first dose.
Some have both shots,” said CEO Amri Rupak Barua.
Of the 13 covid patients at CMRI hospitals, nine vaccinated, eight in part and one completely.
“Because substantial figures have been vaccinated, the infected amount after the dose will climb.
But they will get a moderate form of disease and the risk of death will remain much lower for them,” said Pulmonology Director of CMRI Raja Dhar.
At Medica Superspecialty Hospital, eight of 15 covid patients were vaccinated, five of them were completely.
At the RN Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS), four of the 11 Covid patients claimed to be vaccinated.
“We have 11 covid patients who recognize, with seven in general wards and four in critical care.
Of the seven patients in the general ward, only one who competed both doses, while three of them each had one dose,” said Zonal Chief Rtiik R Venkatesh.
None of the four patients in critical care were vaccinated, even some, he added.
At Peerless Hospital, 21 Covid patients admitted, four had received a vaccine, including two who had obtained both doses, one of which was a doctor.
“Fortunately, no one has severe illness, maybe because they don’t suffer from co-morbidities,” said CEO Nearless Sudipta Mitra.
This shows that they with a single dose vaccine should not be counted as “vaccination”, said RTIICS intensive sauren panja.
“Single doses offer limited protection and recipients must count themselves unknown and remain in all necessary precautions that are prescribed for the general population until the second shot.
But this does not happen,” Panja said.
He added that the recipient could only be considered “vaccinated” once s / he had taken both shots, that too, not immediately.
“It can take up to two-three weeks for antibodies to grow to taste after the second dose.
Also, we need to keep it from a new strain because we don’t know whether the existing vaccine can act against them,” Panja said.
Many make it carefully against the wind after a single dose, Barua said.
“We have seen a satisfaction of themselves among those who only get a dose.
Many stop using masks and join meetings after one shot, without realizing that antibodies can offer sufficient protection only after the second dose.
Some people like that now in support Oxygen in our hospital, “he added.
