Madurai: Theni District collector M Muralidharan and seven PWD officials were stung by bees on Wednesday when a honeycomb in the Vaigai Dam water gate opened to release water.
PWD officials were taken to the Tooi government hospital for temporary care collectors given first aid at Vaigai Dam Guest House.
Minister of Cooperatives I Periyasamy freed water from the dam.
However, the bee did not sting the minister.
Water was released for the first plant irrigation at 1.05 lakh hectare of land in Madurai, Dindigul and Theni.
Usually, water was released for the irrigation of a single plant area on September 15 when the combined Pare Credit crossed 6,000 MCFT.
Because of the rain in the catch, Periyar’s credit touched 10,311 MCFT.
The last time air was released first on August 21, 2018.
