Thiruvananthapuram: Close on the Heel Line of the Appointment of Editor Malayalam Lexicon, Kerala University (KU) has appointed three faculties who retire from the Distance Education School (SDE) as ‘Professor Emeritus’.
My decision has raised eyebrows in the academic circles, especially in the research community, because it made an appointment based on recommendations from the SDE Director, without evaluation or academic discussions about the contribution of the candidates.
This for the first time I pointed to the Professor of Emeritus that also without framing rules, claiming critics.
Professor’s status Emeritus is generally given by UGC or a scientific body for excellent academics.
The Save University campaign committee has accused the three faculties retirees managing Professor Emeritus using their political influence.
While the two candidates are the leader of the left teacher organization, the other is the wife of the leader of the Congress and former member of my syndicate.
The committee submitted a request to Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, urged him to intervene in the ‘unreasonable’ decision taken by the university.
Professional emeritus is generally given to the academic record of the famous trail whose guidance, even after their retirement of services, will be very valuable for students and universities, said Chairman of the Sasikumar Hospital committee.
But, all the faculties raised again by me only present a very short time as a professor.
“There are no research activities that occur.
UGC provides the status of the emeritus professor on the basis of academic achievement and the contribution of the candidates,” the committee said.
He asked Khan to give instructions to me VC to cancel the appointment of three Professors Emeritus who rejected the service.
