Coimbatore: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Friday due to cheating the captain of the commercial ship Rs 20 Lakh.
The district crime branch police identified the defendant as e Ramkumar, a resident of Velandipalalayam.
“He has approached Krishnadhasan, from Marappalam in Madukkarai, to oversee his construction work.
Krishnadhasan is the captain of a commercial ship in the Netherlands,” said a police officer.
Krishnadhasan, said the officer, was used to seek Ramkumar help for mobile banking because he had eye problems.
“On July 29, 2021, Ramkumar used Krishnadhasan cellphone and transferred Rs 20 Lakh to his bank account.
When Krishnadhasan knew about the transaction, he tried to contact Ramkumar, who was missing with his family.” The wife of Krishnadhasan Yamuna submitted a complaint to the district crime branch police, who registered The first information report on Thursday and arrested Ramkumar on Friday.
The police have recovered Rs 2.6 lakh from him.
