Mumbai: Ten Delta Plus cases have been detected from samples sent for genome sequencing from the country in July.
It has taken the Covid-19 case count connected with the variant that appeared to be 76 in Maharashtra.
Of the 76 patients, 10 was fully vaccinated while 12 had received one dose.
Delta-plus is sub-genealogy from the Delta variant which is highly transplanted.
At least 13 lines, including AY.1, AY.2 and AY.3 which are currently found in Maharashtra and are categorized as delta-pluses, have been identified throughout the world.
Six of ten cases have been identified from Kolhapur, three of Ratnagiri and one of the Sindhudurg districts.
The State Public Health Department said that all ten had recovered from Covid-19.
The highest Delta Plus case has been found in Ratnagiri so far (15) followed by Jalgaon (13) and Mumbai (11).
Kolhapur has seven cases, while Thane and Pune each have six cases.
Palghar and Raigad each have three cases.
Nanded, Gondia and Sindhudurg have two cases each and Chandrapur, Akola, Sangli, Nandurbar, Aurangabad and Beed have one case respectively.
In Ratnagiri, all cases have been reported from eight villages from one Taluka Sangameshwar.
Of the 76 patients, 10 was fully vaccinated while 12 had received a dose, indicating that the majority had not taken vaccines.
Two vaccinated people were given covaxin and the rest had taken covishield.
Among those infected with this new variant, 37 are men and 39 women.
The state said that 37 patients were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms so they did not need to take care of.
Five deaths have been associated with this variant so far, including two of Ratnagiri and each of Mumbai, Raigad and Beed.
The most affected (39) was in the age group 19 to 45 years, followed by 19 patients in the age group 46 to 60 years.
There are nine children under 18 years and nine senior citizens affected by delta-pluses.
