Washington: A US defense official said the Head of the Central Command has met directly with the Senior Taliban leaders to urge their fighters not to disturb the operation of the US military evacuation at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan.
The official said that at a meeting on Sunday in Doha, Qatar, General Frank McKenzie won the Taliban Agreement to build a “decree mechanism” – an arrangement in which evacuation operations at the airport could continue without disruption by the new ruler of the country.
The official spoke with anonymous requirements to discuss sensitive talks that have not been announced publicly.
The official said McKenzie urged the Taliban not to disturb the evacuation and said the US military would respond by force to maintain the airport if necessary.
