Bhubaneswar: Nayapalli police here on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly cheating several car owners on the grounds involving their vehicles in self-rental services in the city.
The defendant was identified as Manas Ranjan Bal Bal (26), Simulia residents in Ballasore District.
Police said Manas targeted victims in popular online markets and gave them attractive offers to use their vehicles for self-rental services.
“Some people contacted Balwal and signed an agreement with him.
But Balismal did not give them a monthly rent, or return their car.
We have recovered 10 expensive cars, whose cost will be more than a one-crore hospital,” said a senior police officer.
Last month, a man from the Cuttack’s Chauliahj area filed a complaint against the accusation of Balisan that he cheated him from Rs 6 Lakh.
The man has posted an advertisement on the online market to sell his car for Rs 6 lakh.
Balikwal contacted him, giving him two checks each Rs 3 Lakh and took his car on June 21.
But the check is not respected.
Balismal did not return the man’s car, the officer said.
Police said Bal Bal, who used to work in various hotels in Mumbai and Chennai between 2012 and 2018, opened the roadside restaurant near Chhak Mandir Ram here in 2018.
He then began recruiting cars for his self-drive rental service in 2019.
At least Four cheating casts have been registered at the Nayapalli police station between August 7 this year.
