Rajkot: At least a dozen people were cheated by two people who posed as Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials over the past year.
According to the police, accusing Pyush Vasavadiya and Mansukh Meghani took Rs 5.5 lakh from the victims who promised their homes in the RMC housing scheme in the city that had not yet been built.
Meghani usually lured the victims, while Vasavadiya made them fill out the application form for houses at Shahid Udham Singh Township near Amul Circle.
After collecting forged application letters, the Duo told the victims that houses had been allocated to them and even gave them fake sales deeds and other documents from the property.
When people asked about the ownership of their homes, the defendant would start.
Recently, the victims went to the housing scheme site and was surprised to find that there were no construction activities that had started there.
Realizing that they had been cheated, the victims approached the police and filed a complaint against Vasavadiya and Meghani.
Based on complaints and evidence collected, cheating violations, counterfeiting and criminal conspiracies are registered at the Thorala police station.
