Chennai: a dozen districts in Tamil Nadu reported a new case increase over the last 24 hours on Monday when the state reported a decline to 1,303 new cases compared to 1,329 on Sunday.
However, 13 deaths took a cumulative casing for 35,796 and the total case became 26.79 lakh.
In the end, 1,428 people were sent back, leaving 15,992 active cases.
Two districts – Chennai (168), Coimbatore (128) – continued to report cases in three digits – on Monday, followed by Chengalpet (98) and Tiruppur (87).
The sharpest increase in the reported case from Madurai (20), Nagapattinam (25).
Thiruvallur (58), Tirunelveli (16) and Vellore (22).
Each of these districts reported four cases more than their Sunday.
Twenty-nine districts reported less than 50 new cases each and 17 of them reported less than 20 cases.
With two new screens cases are at the bottom of the new case table followed by Tenkasi (4), Ariyalur (7), Theni (7) and Thirupathur (7).
Of the 13 deaths, Coimbatore reported four and nine other districts – Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, Salem.
Trichy, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Mayiladuthurai and Pengambal – each reported one death.
There was no vaccination on Monday, but officials said more than 67% of people had taken at least one dose of vaccine.
“Our coverage has been extraordinary among pregnant women, nursing mothers and disabled sufferers.
We now ask senior citizens to take the second dose,” said Minister of Health MA Subramanian.
Almost, 15 lakh people will be a second dose, he said.
“We have enough doses of covishield and covaxin,” he told reporters.
