Rajkot: When the school is locked because of covid pandemic, educators have no choice but to find learning tools to overcome the distance barrier.
But many years before locking, Nahid Khan Ligari, a teacher who works in Panchayat-Run District School in Junagadh District, has knocked on the benefits of alternative learning modes and developing ‘learning applications’.
What’s more, it also designs ways to overcome the problem of internet connectivity, by developing applications that function in offline mode too.
What makes its business is getting worse is that in addition to facing ‘limited or without ordinary resources’ problems, ligaries also do not have a ‘technical or software’ background.
A language teacher, Ligari teaches Gujarati, Hindi and England.
But he takes pain learning the basics of application development.
The desire to make education can be accessed by all turned it on, said Ligari.
“I always think of making education available for students in front of their door,” Ligari said.
Ligari work was recognized by the National Education and Education Training Council (NCERT).
He recently negotiated with ‘National Communication & Technology Award’ by NCERT.
Ligari has developed two applications so far – encyclopedia and dictionaries.
After downloading on the cellphone, two applications function in offline mode.
The internet is only needed at the time of application updates.
The encyclopedia, developed in 2015, provides general knowledge to elementary school students.
It has three parts that provide information about – Gujarat State, tourist attractions and animals and birds found here.
The encyclopedia is opened with a map of Gujarat with detailed information about each district.
Through the district map, students get information about history, geography, tourist attractions and other important aspects.
The fauna section gives students basic information about animals and birds, living in various parts of the country, along with their photos and voices.
“This application has received around 20,000 downloads until now,” Ligari said proudly.
“I continue to update this application.
Students need the internet only when updating the application,” he added.
So, how can a language teacher develop this application? “It might be thanks to my brother.
He holds the title of the Master of Computer Application (MCA).
I learned the basics of software engineering from him,” Ligarii said.
After the encyclopedia, ligari sets his views on his expertise, language.
He developed the English dictionary to Gujarati for grade 3 to 8 students.
It has 2,500 words and is updated constantly.
This can be downloaded in PDF format so that it can be placed on the school announcement board or another place.
Ligari also pressed the video prepared by Gyankunj, an initiative of the Basic Education Board of Gujarat.
He compressed 2GB videos from four subjects to 35MB so students can easily download and save them on their cellphones.
