New Delhi: 41,177 positions or 5 percent of the total posts approved at the public sector bank were empty on December 1, Nirmala Union Finance Minister Sitharaman said on Monday.
There were more than 8.05,986 sanctions position at the Public Sector Bank (PSB).
Among the banks, the state of the state of India (SBI) has a maximum number of empty posts at 8,544, according to official data.

Citing the input received from PSB, the minister said that on December 1, this year, 95 percent of staff were in a position against the power of the approved staff, adding that small proportions of vacancies were substantially caused by friction on accounts and other ordinary factors.
“As in 1,12,2021, there are 8.05,986 sanctions posts and 41,177 blank posts at the public sector bank,” Sitharaman said in a written reply.
Posts spread in three categories – officers, officers and sub-staff.
There are 12 PSB.
While SBI has 8,544 empty posts, numbers for Punjab National Bank are at 6,743.
The Indian central bank has 6,295 empty positions, followed by Indian foreign banks in 5,112 and India Bank at 4,848.
In SBI, there are 3,423 empty posts for officers and 5,121 jobs at the clerk level.
Sitharaman also said that there were no posts / vacancies being eliminated for the past six years at PSB, except for one post in Punjab & Sind Bank in 2016.
Banks recruit staff to fill vacancies on an ongoing job according to their needs, he added.
Other PSBs are Bank of Baroda, Bank of Maharashtra, Bank Canara, Bank India, Bank Punjab & Sind, UCO Bank and Union Bank of India, according to data.
