Coimbatore: Aadi Amassai is a low key business in the district as a ritual in the temples is prohibited in the view of the increasing Covid-19 case.
While ordinary people gathered on the Noyyal River at the Red and Bathrakaliamman Temple in Mettupalayam to perform rituals for their ancestors on that occasion, Covid restrictions forced them to do rituals in homes.
“We used to visit a temple to do rituals that day and meet friends and relatives there.
But we were forced to do rituals at home,” said S Vadivel, a resident of Gandhipuram.
“We hope that the Covid-19 limit is over soon so we can visit anywhere like and when we want,” he said.
The police team was deployed to ensure that people did not gather in places that were prohibited.
Most people obey locking rules and avoid large meetings, said source of police.
