Nagpur: Taking new initiatives to involve young people in combating climate change, the Maharashtra government has started an internship for young people under the latest Fellowship Climate program.
Below, young people chosen will get a rare opportunity to represent the government and lead the international coalition.
Designed by the state environment and the climate change department under the leadership of the Minister of Environment Aaditya Thackeray, the idea of this program is to expand the Department of Environment and build solid narratives in climate change.
“Even though we called the young man to face the challenge and said that they were the future, we hardly entrust them with responsibility.
It was in his 30s, I saw the difference that you could have when called to do good,” Thackeray said to Tii .
The state has invited applications for six moth internship programs from graduates, post-graduates and scholars of research from any backdrop.
A total of 20 internship positions have been announced.
This is the second cycle of this program, the first was held in February this year.
Providing details, said Aaditya, “Mitigation and adaptation of climate change is a sector where young people will do outside their duty calls because it is for them and future generations.
We need innovation, fire in stomach and newer ideas and enthusiasm .
That is what we get from the internship.
“Through these initiatives, children will get the opportunity to take the leadership role in taking dialogue in climate change at the national and international stage.
“What we have realized is that climate change is a very cross cutting subject and we need young policy makers to become very liquid in the government.
Through this program, the internship will take the leadership role in crossing different government departments – whether the energy, the council Control of pollution, agriculture or other and sewing together climate narratives, “said Saurabh Punamiya Jain, research and public policy assistant for the Cabinet of State Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
To ensure sustainable state development and raising awareness about the increase in climate emergency, Maharashtra has been proactive in being part of C40 Cities, Cities4Forests, U-2 coalition along with other projects such as Majhi Vasundhara.
“After taking part in a company like that, the question then arises how you maintain involvement because this is a very contemporary tissue form that can be difficult for government officials who deal with themselves.
That’s where these people become a picture – They lead and represents the government side from the lowest to the highest administrative level, “Jain added.
The full details of this program are available on the official website of the Maharashtra neighborhood and the climate change department – envd.maharashtra.gov.in.
