Bokaro: The length of the runway of Bokaro Airport which is less construction will be reduced by 121 meters after the Indian Airport Authority (AAI) found several technical problems during the inspection last month.
The AAI Department of Civil and Safety Team, which examined the final stage of construction last month, was located eight obstacles in the proposed funnel zone and zero threshold spot on the runway along the Dundibagh region in the city.
Furthermore, AAI has written to the management of Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) and asks him to remove obstacles.
In flight language, the funnel zone is referred to the imaginary flight path that extends outside and up from the runway.
Threshold Points are mentioned at the start of the foundation available for landings.
Both of these permits are very important for each airport to start operations.
Commissioning Bokaro Airport Project has been postponed due to encroachment and locking induced by Covid 19.
However, the proximity of the limit wall built with Dundibagh to the runway has caused obstacles in terms of getting a threshold.
Originally designed for a length of 1,671 meters, engineers now cut the runway to 1,500 meters to get the necessary security permissions.
The airport, is being built at a clean cost of Rs 46 Crore by AAI, will be managed by BSL after being assigned.
According to AAI officers, currently there are four major expansion works left at Bokaro airport, which includes the construction of fire department stations, road approaches, resa runway works with the threshold and installation of papi lamps.
Obstacles in the funnel zone include telecommunications towers, advertising boards and large trees outside the airport boundary wall.
“Preparation has been made to eliminate the eight obstacles identified by AAI, which will be finished soon.
Working on the manual and SOP to apply a almost finished license.
BSL will immediately send the application for the license,” said Manikant Dhan, Chief Communications Officer of BSL.
