A’bad: Four large landslides hit Kannad Ghat

Aurangabad: With heavy rain from the Maharashtra Marathwada region, Kannad Ghat from the Aurangabad district witnessed a large landslide in various locations, causing damage to several vehicles passing from the Ghat Highway.
In the 10 km-km-long ghat, there was a landslide in four different locations, because of which more than four dozen vehicles were stuck on the road.
A mini truck along with its residents’ drivers and cleaners have been washed into dozens of hundreds of Ghat feet and search operations have been launched to find vehicles and save the two people.
Some other commuters in other vehicles have magical escape when landslides last one by one in four different locations, in the range just minutes on Tuesday morning.
The authorities stated that close to a dozen vehicles were damaged and stuck in the debris.
National Highway Authority (NHAI) Executive Engineer Mahesh Patil told Toi, “Rescue and opening operations are being carried out on a war footing.
However, it will likely take 24 hours to clear the road.” Landslides have completely disrupted the movement of traffic In Dhule – Aurangabad – Soapur National Highway, which is also the main road chosen by vehicles of goods from Rajasthan and Gujarat because they are connected to Marathwada, Vidarbha and several southern countries.
Swing into the action, several teams from the Highway police along with NHAI were deployed along with the excavators to clean mud, large stones and trees that covered several legs on the surface of the highway in the Ghat section.
To ensure that there is no further traffic on the main road, Aurangabad rural police deployed an examination post on both sides of Ghat and divert traffic through the interior path through Panpoi – Chanaur Bangla – Nandgaon – Chaliser.
Then, Sunil Chavan District collector, the authorities of the Kannad Police Authority and Kannad MLA Udaysingh Rajput and others do spot inspections of the parts that can be accessed from GHAT.
The source states that they face challenges in maintaining important articles including bottled water and food packages to commuters trapped in three different locations, where landslides have prevented both sides of the road.
