Kolkata: Laurate Nobel Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee is likely to arrive in Kolkata on August 5 from Paris to attend the Global Advisory Board (GAB) meeting to discuss the strategy of Bengal to overcome the third wave.
Eight Gab members were formed in April last year by CM Mamata Banerjee to form a medical and economic response to the Covid crisis.
GAB has met informally every week, helping the government of Bengal with feedback and suggestions.
Banerjee was in Kolkata in October 2019 because the city rejoiced her Nobel win.
This will be his first visit to the city during a pandemic.
According to sources, Banerjee, scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on August 5, will attend the GAB meeting at 3.30 a.m., which is likely to be chaired by the Banerjee CM.
He will live with his mother at a family residence in Ballygunge.
On August 6, he tended to attend the function at the Indian Institute of Heart and Digestion based in Sonarpur to inaugurate a new office building and the Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) factory installed.
He is also expected to put the foundation stone for nursing training institutions at the facility by the West Bengal Heart Foundation.
He will leave Kolkata for New Delhi on August 8 and flew out of the country on August 12.
GAB recommends a few steps, including gender reversals from Covid beds, where 60% of beds will now be saved for women and 40% for men.
It is also recommended to improve pediatric facilities throughout the state, with pediatricians and nurses who visit and train all the first respondents in health facilities on child emergency care.
Other GAB advice, which according to CM The government is implementing, is categorized all mothers who have children under 12 in the frontline vaccination group.
