New Delhi: The government on Thursday said “actively pursuing” increasing the availability of covid vaccines through imports and emphasizing that the current focus is to spit on domestic production of vaccination programs.
In the online media briefing, the spokesman for the External Ministry (MEA) Arinindam Bagchi said India hoped that each country would more recognize the india-made vaccine.
“Let me repeat that our current focus continues to aim to provide domestic production towards the Indian domestic vaccination program,” he said.
“We also actively pursue an increase in vaccine availability through imports.
This has helped increase the speed of vaccination in recent weeks,” Bagchi said.
At present, three Covid-19 vaccines – Covaxin by Bharat Biotech, Covishield by Serum Institute of India (SII) and Russia Sputnik V – are being used for inoculation in India.
The total number of vaccine doses given so far has reached 36.48 crores under the drive of national vaccination.
Asked about the approval of the World Health Organization for Covaxin, Bagchi said the government continued to monitor progress and add, “I will refer you to Bharat Biotech for the right status where it stands.” “We also hope that each country will further recognize the india-made vaccine,” he said.
Asked how many countries showed interest in the Indian technology platform for Cowin Vaccination, Bagchi showed that a very important event, Cowin Global Conchave, was held earlier this week and overcome by the Prime Minister and other officials.
“It is an opportunity to offer the world of Cowin our digital platform which is accidentally developing which is an open source and can be shared with all.
