San Francisco: Employees at Activision Blizzard planned work termination on Thursday to protest sexism in a video game company, according to the crying rally echoed on social media.
Activision Blizzard Walkout for equality is to survive through workdays, with direct events during lunch hours on campus companies in California City of South Irvine.
The committee hopes about 50 people to take part in campus protests, with other people join virtually due to Covid-19 pandemic.
“It is the responsibility of leadership to eliminate toxicity and harassment in any form, at all levels of the company,” said Activision Blizzard and Co-Founder Mike Morhaime in a post over the weekend.
“For a snowstorm woman who experienced these things, I was very sorry that I failed.” Morhaime admitted in posting that harassment and discrimination were common in the video game industry.
Calls for walkouts came as workers blew up the Activision Blizzard response to many complaints of sexism and abuse in a letter that referred to the reaction “disgusting.” Employees at the company demanded that the executive “recognize the seriousness of this allegation and show mercy for the victims,” according to letters posted online.
The letter was signed by more than 2,000 employees on Tuesday, according to media reports.
The California Department of Manpower and Housing filed civilian complaints last week which claimed the maker of “duty calls” and “World of Warcraft” violating the state law by enabling “the culture of the workplace of pervasive boys.” In the latest case that highlighted sexism claims in the video game industry, the lawsuit said the company “fosters a sexist culture and pays female fewer than men,” according to a statement from the State Body.
Activision Blizzard pushed back allegations, said that the lawsuit “included distorted, and in many fake cases, Blizzard’s past descriptions.” “In cases related to violations, actions are taken to overcome this problem,” he said.
The game company said it was cooperative with the state bodies but it was “rushed to file an inaccurate complaint, as we will show in court.” The employee’s letter condemned comments made by Activision in his defense as “disgusting and insulting.” Activision did not respond to a request to comment on the letter.
