Bhubaneswar: Members of the civil society group, including Lok Shakti Abhiyan and Samyukt Kisan Morcha, on Thursday were nicknamed the environmental impact assessment report on Utkal JSW steel which was unfounded and fraudulent, the accusation was rejected by the company.
Prafulla Samantara activists, who have protested steel generators from the start, accused that the environmental impact assessment report prepared for the proposed JSW project was carried out to justify the project, rather than assessing the impact on the environment.
“This report has made intentional efforts not to recognize the impact of further pollution burden on the regional environment,” alleged samantara.
Suresh Panigrahy from Samyukt Kisan Morcha said the proposed plant emission burden will be twice emissions throughout the cluster in the paradip.
“Emissions will be responsible for the estimated 94 deaths per year,” he said.
The company, in a statement, said the environmental impact assessment report for the proposed project has been prepared based on guidelines issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest.
