Gurgaon: The Faridabad authorities detained a social activist on Tuesday for allegedly instigating people to protest against the demolition of about 10,000 homes built on Aravali property in Khori village.
Last week, the Supreme Court had led Faridabad government to demolish the structures and also file a compliance file, rejecting a request for an alternate site for the encroachers.
Over the last couple of days, authorities have enrolled three FIRs and detained 15 people.
Police said the detained people, such as activist Nirmal Gorana, blocked streets, tried to prevent demolition and instigated sailors to point protests.
The district government imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the region on Tuesday, which prohibits gathering of more than five individuals at an area.
Hundreds of individuals, including women and children, are protesting at Khori village from the demolition drive, requiring rehab before beating from their homes in which they’ve been alive for many decades.
Gorana, the general secretary of NGO Bandhua Mukti Morcha, had played an active role in the demonstration.
The protesters alleged Gorana was detained without a warrant with a group from Surajkund police station on Tuesday.
Despite many requests by a lawyer, authorities did not confirm the arrest for many hours, they declared.
The activist’s supporters alleged that authorities are terrorising residents and also have disconnected Khori’s water and electricity supply.
“Gorana went Khori to analyze the problem and discovered that water and power supply was cut regardless of the expansion of their demolition date.
He was coming home when authorities picked him up,” that a supporter said.
Refuting the allegations, Faridabad police published a statement on Tuesday saying Gorana has been introduced to the police station and afterwards sent to judicial custody for instigating protesters.
“Authorities are not using drive, we’re only advocating protesters to follow societal distancing standards and use masks,” Faridabad police spokesperson Sube Singh explained.
Authorities are totally ready to perform demolition and preserve law and order,” he added.
Around 10,000 homes in town fear they’ll end up displaced following the Supreme Court on June 7 arranged Faridabad Municipal Corporation to clean the eco-sensitive zone of encroachments.
Though the SC order cites that hierarchical structures need to be eliminated within fourteen days, district management said there isn’t any rehabilitation program to the affected households.
