Turugram: Green activists based in the city have sent legal notifications to MCG and Rwa of 25 housing communities and HSVP plans colonies in Gurugram because of alleged failure to comply with the rules of solid waste management.
Vaishali Rana Chandra has threatened to move the national green court if the Civic and Rwa bodies do not separate waste and install compost units in their community within 15 days.
This is mandatory for bulk waste generators such as large housing communities that produce 50kg or more waste every day to process and manage the same thing themselves.
“This mass waste generator in the city does not separate waste in sources, which violates SWM regulations, 2016.
They have two weeks to obey the rules, if not, I will approach NGT,” Vaishali said.
According to the HSPCB report in 2019, from 4,635 tons of waste produced in Haryana every day, “only 17.5% were successfully treated and recycled,” Vaishali said.
“Many mass waste generators are still tiring SWM rules and civil bodies have dragged their feet in an effective implementation with the same thing.
We will be forced to move the green court if the rules are not followed,” he added.
When contacted, Commissioner with MCG Day Om Attri said, “Three teams have surveys in the city.
We have tried to educate people by creating awareness and motivating them, but now we will strictly enforce the rules.
We have identified more than 1,000 waste generators Bulk in the city and began to issue notices to them.
“” If they fail to obey the SWM rules, we will impose a fine of RS 1 Lakh for the first time, which can increase to Rs 5 Lakh if there is a violation for the second time, “he added.
