Nagpur: A webinar on ‘Omicron and Beyond’ compiled together by the Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS) and the Indian Medical Association, Nagpur (IMA) on Sundays as evidenced by a dose of booster in the war against Covid-19 Pandemic as one of the highest authorities In public health in India expressed hope that we could bid adieu from all types of Coronavirus.
Padma Shri Dr.
Raman Gangakhedkar, former ICMR head who was the main speaker at the seminar, said that this wave tended to reach the peak in February and even earlier because many cases were not reported.
He also said that March will see a sharp decline in the number of cases, hospitalization and death.
“Next year will have some good developments such as pan-coronavirus vaccines and effective anti-viral drugs,” he said.
“The zero covid strategy is not functioning.
It will backfire if we try to stop the virus.
This is the least affordable too.
We must ensure the vaccination of the majority of the population and allow a vaccinated population to work normally,” said Dr.
Gangakhedkar.
Dr.
Sanjay Pujari, a famous infectious disease specialist said that currently monoclonal antibodies are useless against Omicron.
“Omicron will only cause minor disease in most people.
In case of some people who are not vaccinated and some vaccinated, it can cause a severe type of disease.
However, there is no point in using favipirairir, ivermectin, hydroxycholoquin, and the most important steroids,” He said.
The famous specialist in Nagpur Dr.
Nikhil Balankhe and Dr.
Rajan Barokar also joined the discussion.
Dr.
Balankhe called for a symbiotic relationship with Covid-19 for further.
Dr.
Barokar said that hospitals in Nagpur have adopted a 5-day quarantine strategy for doctors and positive health workers in Covid-19.
“Every day four or five HCW detected Covid-19 positive.
We allow them to return to work wearing a mask after five days of quarantine,” he said.
Dr.
Milind Bhrushundi, another former infectious disease specialist in the city, is the organizer of the program.
He quoted two recent international studies.
“About 50% of omicron patients come to hospitals for some non-covid symptoms and then accidentally detected positively.
In addition, nine out of 10 patients treated in the ICU are not clear,” he said.
Dr.
Ravindra Sarnaik, AMS President, Dr.
Sanjay Deotale, President of Ima, Dr.
Sachin Gathe, Ima Secretary and Dr.
Nainesh Patel, AMS Secretary also participated in the seminar.
More than 500 doctors from the city and outside join virtually.
