Daltonganj: The Palamu government has sounded a warning about the gender ratio that is tilted in the district and asks officials to check whether the ultrasound clinic conducts illegal sex determination tests.
The warning was heard after the official document found an increase in gaps in the gender ratio in the district.
Documents, accessed by TOI here, revealed that for 1,000 men, there were 926 women in Palamu.
According to the 2011-21 census, the Palamu population was 19.39,269 among the numbers of women only 9.33,567.
Arun Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Singh, who is currently treating the health of the state, medical education and family planning, sends a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Palamu to hold a meeting of the District Advisory Committee for the Pre-conception Diagnostics and pre-Christmas here.
Deputy Commissioner Shashi Ranjan told the correspondent on Wednesday that he held a recent advisory committee meeting and asked officials to find out whether there was an ultrasonographic clinic here was indulging in sex determination.
There are 27 licensed ultrasound clinics in this district, said Ranjan.
He refused to comment when asked if he was aware of the ultrasound clinic that did sex determination tests secretly.
Deputy Commissioner said, “We have asked officials to oversee the number of abortions and the possibility of women’s feticide.”
