Jaipur: Assembly on Saturday passed the Criminal Law (Amendment) of the Bill 2021 to improve punishment for food forgery and medicine.
Under new amendments, violations have been made that can be recognized and unpredictable and will invite a punishment from three years to a period of life together with RS 50,000 penalty.
Section 272 to 276 from the Indian Criminal Code (IPC) deals with violations relating to food, drinks, drugs or medical preparations.
Violations can be punished by prisons that can be extended for up to six months, or with a fine that can reach Rs 1000, or with both.
Violations cannot be recognized and except for violations related to falsify any medical or medical preparations based on part 274, violations below 272, 273, 275 and 276 allegedly.
Minister of Udh Shanti Dhariwal said the bill had been brought as a punishment for food adolescents and drugs under the IPC was obsolete.
He said the Supreme Court also suggested to get a punishment for violations equivalent to central food security laws and central medicine and cosmetic laws.
He said Rajasthan was the fourth country to make amendments.
Opposition leader Kulab Chand Kataria said that even though the government brought amendments, the enforcement wing was very weak.
