Washington: US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told Congress on Tuesday that the sudden collapse of the Afghan Army arrested the Pentagon off-guard when he admitted miscalculations in the world’s longest war including corruption and morals damaged.
“The fact that our Afghan army and our partners are trained only melted – in many cases without shooting shots – bringing us all surprisingly,” said Austin to the Senate armed service committee.
“Will be dishonest to claim otherwise.” Austin was talking at the beginning of two days of what was expected to be some of the most controversial hearings in the memory of the chaotic tip to the war in Afghanistan, which cost the lives of US forces and civilians and leave the Taliban back in power.
The Senate and House Committee oversees the US military held a trial on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the Republican Party hoped to zero on what they saw as an error that the government of President Joe Biden was made towards the end of the War of two decades.
The trial followed a similar question two weeks ago who saw US Secretary of State Antony Blinken firmly defended administration, even when he faced a call to his resignation.
Biden has faced his presidency’s biggest crisis for losing a dramatic war in handling Afghanistan and America on troubled withdrawals, raising questions about foreign policy assessment and expertise.
Senator James Inhofe, Republic of the Top Republic of Uniam Armed Senate, directly blamed the Biden government.
Inhofe said Biden ignored the recommendations of his military leaders and left many Americans after US withdrawal.
“We all witnessed the horror of the president’s own manufacture,” Inhofe said.
General Mark Milley’s army, chief head of the staff joints, testified that he did not anticipate the speed of Taliban takeover.
But he recorded a military warning since the end of 2020 that the withdrawal was accelerated – without being bound to any condition – could deploy the collapse of the military and the Afghan government.
“It was a year ago.
My assessment remains consistent throughout,” Milley said.

“Is it perfect? Of course not,” said Austin, noting the desperate Afghans who died trying to climb the side of the US military plane and civilians were killed in the last US war attack.
Milley said the Taliban “remains a terrorist organization” which has not been broken with al-Qaida.
He warned that Al-Qaida which was dissolved in Afghanistan with the aspirations to attack the United States was “very real possibilities” – maybe in just a year.
The warning is likely to disturb the Republic of Parliament, who is skeptical of the Pentagon’s ability to track the threat of Al Qaeda and Islamic State, and act quickly on whatever information he gets.
However, Austin defended the Biden administration plan to deal with contra-terrorism threats in the future of groups such as Al Qaeda and Islamic State by flying in drones or commanders from abroad.
“Over-the-horizon operation is difficult but very possible.
And the intelligence that supports them comes from various sources, not just our boots on the ground,” said Austin.
