Afghan girls should not be excluded from school: UNICEF

New York: UN Children’s Funds (UNICEF) have welcomed the reopening of schools in Afghanistan since Saturday, but emphasizes that girls should not be kept away from classrooms.
“We are very worried”, UNICEF head Henrietta Fore said in a statement on Friday, “that many girls may not be allowed to return at this time”.
“Even before the latest humanitarian crisis, 4.2 million children were not registered at school.
About 60 percent of them are girls.
Every day that girls lose education are opportunities that are missed for them, their families and their communities,” he .
Added.
According to news reports, school announcements opened back from the Taliban, only referring to the return of boys, not referring to the date of return for girls.
This step is contrary to the promise made by the Taliban after assuming power in Kabul.
“Girls can not, and may not, lagging behind.
It is very important that all girls, including older girls, are able to continue their education without further delay.
For this reason, we need female teachers to continue teaching,” he added.
The Taliban last month regained full control over Afghanistan after US forces withdrew and the Afghan government collapsed, encourage fears that they would handle the interpretation of Islamic law that prohibit schools.
According to UNICEF, significant progress has been made in education in this country for the past two decades.
“Number of schools three times.
The number of children in schools increased from 1 million to 9.5 million.” The UN agency, led by in the future, therefore urged development partners to support education “for all children” in Afghanistan.
“UNICEF will continue to advocate with all actors so that all girls and boys have the same opportunity to learn and develop the skills they need to develop and build peaceful and productive Afghanistans,” stated.
