The leader of the Afghan opposition group who rejected Taliban troops in the Panjshir Valley north of Kabul said on Sunday he welcomed the proposal from religious scholars to settlement negotiated to end the battle.
Ahmad Massoud, Head of the Afghan National Front Resistance (NRFA), made an announcement on the group Facebook page.
Previously, Taliban troops said they had fought their way to the capital of Panjshir Province after securing the surrounding district.
“NRF in principle agreed to solve the current problem and ended the battle and continued negotiations,” Massoud said at the Facebook post.
“To achieve lasting peace, NRF is ready to stop fighting on the condition that the Taliban also stopped their attacks and military movements in Panjshir and Andab,” he said, referring to a district in the adjacent Baghlan Province.
Previously, Afghan media outlets reported that the scholars ‘scholars’ council had asked the Taliban to receive a negotiated settlement to end the battle in Panjshir.
