Afghan students in Dharwad, Mysore worried about home

MySuru / Dharwad: The fall of Kabul has sent a shock wave among Afghani students in Mysore and Dharwad.
While 92 of them were in various institutions affiliated with University of Mysore, many did the Master and PhD courses at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad.
Those in Mysuru approached the University authorities to help get visa extensions.
Granardhana, Director, International Center, UOM, said: “These students are worried about developments and concerned about the safety of parents and families.” He added: “Some students seek visa extensions because they will finish study in the next few months and can remain in India until they are in return position.
Because many come on government scholarships, we are waiting for direction about it.” In Dharwad , Afghan students are also worried about family and friends at home.
Nafralullah Kakar, a PhD scholar, worried about his wife and children who went to the house a month ago.
“I am a government employee in Kabul.
I have lived on the UAS campus with my wife, our three daughters and youngest children, a boy.
I talked to my wife and brothers and sisters and everything was safe.

Nasarat Kotwal, a MSc student, said: “I talk to my friends and family and they are safe.
But, we don’t know what will happen.
We use a social media platform to keep in touch.” Students in UAS come from Bamiyan, Baghlan and Aflashshan, among other places.
UAS Deputy Chancellor MB Chetti said they were accepted through the Indian Agricultural Research Council as part of the India-Afghan fellowship initiative.
“More than 400 students received tickets to more than 70 agricultural universities throughout India this year.
While we have 22 on campus, 15 returned home last month when Covid-19 cases were thorny.
They are now attending online classes.
We extend everything to support and help them contact their family and friends.
