KABUL: The government-led Taliban will soon reopen universities throughout the country for male and female students, but the class will be separated for boys and girls, a minister said here.
Because the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021, the university remained closed, Tolo News reported.
Minister of Higher Education Abdul Baqi Haqqani made a statement while talking to the media on Wednesday, without giving the right date for the reopening.
The Minister blames the ongoing economic crisis and a lack of separate classes for male and female students as a reason for delay in reopening the university.
He also claimed that the Taliban would form an international university, which would include “Sharia, Medical, Agriculture and Engineering programs.
Masters and PhD titles will be offered in these four fields”.
According to Haqqani, several regional countries promised to provide educational scholarships for Afghan students.
Meanwhile, some students said that they had lived in uncertainty over the past six months since shutdown, Tolo News reported.
“These six months are long periods and will affect student motivation,” said Matullah Pirozi, a student.
“We were surprised that they could not form a scheme in six months.
This scheme can be easily formed,” said Mohammad Hilal, another student.
