New Delhi: India has decided to vaccinate Afghanistan who returned against polio for free as a precautionary measure of a wild polio virus, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Sunday.
The Minister also shares photos where the return can be seen stabbing at Delhi International Airport.
Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries in the world where polio is still endemic.
“We have decided to vaccinate the Afghanistan that returned with the free polio vaccine – OPV & FIPV, as a precautionary measure of a wild polio virus.
Congratulations to the health team for their efforts to ensure public health will see the drive vaccine at Delhi International Airport,” Mandaviya Tweeted.
India on Sunday evacuated 168 people including 107 Indians from Kabul in the IAF military transport aircraft in the midst of a deteriorating security situation in the Afghan capital after the Taliban took over.
The country had previously evacuated 200 people including Indian envoys and other staff from the embassy in Kabul in two heavy lifting aircraft C-17 from IAF after the Taliban confiscated Kabul’s control.
The first evacuation flight brought back more than 40 people, most of the staff at the Indian Embassy on Monday.
The second C-17 aircraft evacuated around 150 people including Indian diplomats, officials, security personnel and several Indians stranded from Kabul on Tuesday.
The Taliban swept Afghanistan this month, grabbed the control of almost all the main cities and cities including Kabul in the background of the withdrawal of US troops.
