New Delhi: At least 47 people were confirmed to die and more than 70 were injured in another attack at the Shiite Mosque in South Afghanistan.
This is the second attack this month at the Shiite Mosque in the country.
The explosion near the Shargah Imam Mosque in Kandahar City occurred during Friday prayers, a spokesman for the Taliban government interior.
Several eyewitnesses said they heard three explosions, one at the main door of the mosque, the other in the south, and a third of the worshipers washing before their prayers.
“We are sad to know that the explosion occurred in a Shia brotherhood mosque in the first district of Kandahar where a number of compatriot martyrs and was injured,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Tweet, Qari Sayed Khosti, from the Taliban movement that ruled Afghanistan.
“The special forces of the Islamic Emirates have arrived in the area to determine the nature of the incident and bring the perpetrators to court.” The photos posted by journalists on social media show many people apparently died or seriously injured on the mosque floor.
Further details are waiting.
There is no claim immediate responsibility.
Last Friday, the Shiite Mosque was targeted by a suicide bomber in Kunduz Province, killing almost fifty people.
The Islamic state then claims responsibility for attacks on the telegram channel.
