New Delhi: In the midst of a deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan with the Taliban capturing new areas, India is likely to return citizens and officials from the war-hit by the country.
India, who has had a major presence in Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban in 2001 after the US invasion, has helped the government in a row there including members of the northern alliance who have been friends with India for a long time.
“With the Afghan security situation deteriorating, the plan has been discussed because it brings our citizens and officials present in various parts of the country and some of these institutions are discussing for this purpose,” said Sumber Ani.
India has his embassy in Kabul with the consulate in Kandahar and Mazar where he has more than 500 staff deployed.
Two consulates at Herat and Jalalabad have stopped operating before there.
The process is being discussed and unclear whether all workers will return or some important staff will live in Afghanistan.
Indian military officials have also assisted in training Afghan National Army personnel both in Afghanistan and India as well, the source said.
Given the US decision to attract all the strengths of Afghanistan, Taliban troops have captured newer districts and regions with lightning speed and Afghan government forces also escaped from a number of places there.
In Kandahar, the Taliban has captured bridges and important roads that connect the city with other parts and Afghan officials also take steps to ensure their own security, reports from Afghanistan suggest.
India has greatly worked for rebuilding Afghanistan and helped him build a parliament building along with several roads that connect important cities in a war-hit country.
A large number of Afghans have received training in different skills when India has spent billions of dollars to increase the ability of Afghan personnel.
