Kabul: Wednesday Taliban appointed former Mirwais Ashraf All-Rounder as Chair of the Afghan Cricket Council to replace Azizullah Fazli, who was responsible for two months.
Afghan media reported the decision was taken after the demands by the national players while meeting Taliban officials in Abu Dhabi for the ongoing twenty -20 World Cup.
“The Prime Minister of the Emirates of the Afghan Islamic Emirates has appointed Mirwais Ashraf as Chair of the Afghan Cricket Council (ACB),” Taliban’s statement said.
Ashraf played 46 internationally one day and 25 Twenty20 International, the last in 2016.
Afghanistan bent from Twenty20 World Cup Super 12 Stage after winning only two matches of their five groups, who lost in Pakistan, India and New Zealand.
The country faces political upheaval and cricket because the Taliban took over after the withdrawal of US troops and NATO at the end of August this year.
The attitude of the Taliban hardline on not allowing women to play cricket pushing calls for the Afghan team to be banned, with the Australian Skipper Test team believing will refuse to play it.
Australia Cricket on Friday postponed a test match against Afghanistan – the first scheduled between the two countries – in Brisbane later this month, by saying they would host the match only after the situation was clearer.
The International Cricket Council – which has regulations stating that all member countries must have a team of men and women – have been careful, saying it will discuss this issue in the board meeting later this month.
However, ACB announced his team would visit Zimbabwe for three international international days and three international twenty20 next month.
The date of the match has not been resolved.
