New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed concern for the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and said India was strongly influenced by the chain of events that occurred in the country hit by a war.
Speaking at SCO-CSTO Outreach Summit in Afghanistan held online in the middle of the Covid Pandemic, PM Modi highlighted economic and humanitarian misery faced by the Afghan community due to recent developments.
“There is a serious humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Because of the obstacles in the flow of financial and trade, the economic constraints of the people of Afghanistan are on the rise.
Covid’s challenge adds to distress,” he said.
Speaking of the Taliban takeover, the Prime Minister said the change of power recently in this country “not included” and occurred without negotiations.
Afghanistan Crisis Live Update “This raises questions for receiving new systems.
Women’s representation, minority and all parts of the Afghan community are very important,” said Prime Minister.
He said neighboring countries such as India would be most affected by the crisis in Afghanistan and added that there was a strong need to focus and regional cooperation.
PM Modi said the development in Afghanistan could lead to the flow of drugs that were “uncontrolled”, illegal weapons and human trafficking.
“A large number of sophisticated weapons remain in Afghanistan.
Because of this, there will be a risk of instability in all regions,” Modi said.
“If instability and fundamentalism continues in Afghanistan, the ideology of terrorists and extremists will be encouraged throughout the world.
Other extremist organizations may get a boost to achieve power through violence,” he said.
The Prime Minister said it was very important for the global community to make decisions about recognition of new systems, collectively and with the right deliberation.
“All countries have become victims of terrorism, so together we must ensure that the land of Afghanistan is not used to spreading terrorism in any country.
SCO member nations must develop strict norms on this issue,” he said.
He said nations must also ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches Afghanistan in an unobstructed way.
The Prime Minister said India wanted the United Nations to play a central role in the midst of ongoing developments in Afghanistan.
‘Radicalized the biggest challenge for peace, security’speaking at the previous conference, PM Modi said the recent developments in Afghanistan have shown that increased radicalization is the “root cause” of the biggest challenges related to peace and security in the region.
“The 20-year-old SCO warning is also a suitable opportunity to think about the future of SCO.
I believe that the biggest challenge in this area is related to peace, security, and trust deficit and the root causes of this problem increases radicalization,” the prime minister said.
Recent developments in Afghanistan have made this challenge more clearly and the SCO must take the initiative about this problem, he asserts.
Radicalization battles are not only needed for regional security and mutual trust, but also needed for a bright future of our young generation, said Modi.
